Allocating Your Assets
Asset allocation, in its basic form, is investing in the right mix of assets at the right time. There are two basic principles to sound investment, particularly when it comes to choosing how to spread your risk. These include:
-
In volatile markets, diversify; and
-
Don’t restrict yourself – invest in cash, fixed interest, property and stocks.
The mix of assets you choose should be determined by how much risk you want to take. At one end of the scale, if you want high risk you might invest all your money in Emerging Market stocks; while at the other extreme, if you want minimum risk you could leave all your money in cash.
