Eclectica Asset Management was established in 2005 by Hugh Hendry and Simon Batten who had previously been partners at Odey Asset Management.

The company, which is wholly owned by its six partners, was founded on the premise of performance-driven absolute return investing. The management of Eclectica have a long and proven track record of managing long-only equity funds.

Eclectica’s current assets under management are $800m. In addition to managing European and global mandates, Eclectica offers investors the following funds:

CF Agriculture Fund – global equities relating to agriculture and farming issues
CF Eclectica Continental European Fund – equities in Europe excluding the UK
CF Eclectica European Fund – equities in Europe including the UK
Eclectica Fund – an offshore hedge fund

Brief outline of investment philosophy

Eclectica is a specialist asset manager, focusing on analysing global markets and trends. Their natural curiosity and independence of mind leads them to unloved areas of the market and stocks or sectors that have dropped by 70 -80 % but have started to show signs of life. The fact that a company has survived suggests an resilient and enduring franchise that may regain pricing power. The secondary process is to look for relative strength using a proprietary screening and ranking system. Once a stock has shown relative strength the analysts/portfolio manager will collate and analyse all the historical financial statements , uindertaking an in depth study of the company and its peers. Finally regular follow up visits to see company management are undertaken.
